Prevention
Do not work in close proximity to fan blades to avoid injuries. The fan can spontaneously turn on!

PERFORMANCE ORDER |
1. If the fan is not switched off on the cooled-down engine, then disconnect the conducting socket (it is specified by an arrow) from the thermoswitch of the fan and turn off two nuts of fastening of a cover of the thermostat to the case (the top nut is specified). Now at turn of the ignition key the fan has to turn on in the provision of ON. |
2. If the fan does not turn on, then check the fan relay, conducting between the thermoswitch and the relay and the electric motor. |
3. Short circuit of contacts of the thermoswitch (is specified by an arrow) screwed in a thermostat cover is checked by an ohmmeter. Disconnect the socket of conducting and connect one of ohmmeter probes to the probe on the switch, and connect other probe to the case. |
4. On the cooled-down engine (temperature of liquid is below 82 °C) the ohmmeter has to show the closed chain. On the heated-up engine (temperature of liquid is above 93 °C) the ohmmeter has to show a gap. |
5. For clarification of causes of failure of the electric motor (the fan does not rotate on the heated-up engine, or at the switched-on conditioner) check safety locks or fusible inserts (see subsection 12.1). |
6. Then disconnect the socket on the fan electric motor (it is specified by an arrow) and connect the electric motor directly to the battery by means of wires from a fusible insert. If the fan does not rotate, then replace the electric motor. |
Prevention
It is not allowed to connect clips of test wires with each other, or to concern them any metal part of the car.
7. If in the previous test it becomes clear that the electric motor is serviceable, then the relay, a safety lock or conducting are faulty. In this case it is necessary to check the relay of the fan and the main relay of the engine, being guided by the technique described below. |
Check of the relay
PERFORMANCE ORDER |
1. Find the main assembly block which is located on the left side of a motor compartment. On the cars equipped with the conditioner there is a block of additional relays close to the battery (see rice. An arrangement of the main relay of the engine, relay of the conditioner and relay of the fan in the main relay block). |
2. Remove the relay of the N1 fan and by means of an ohmmeter check chains between conclusions, being guided by the drawing. On cars Nippondenso or Bosch relays which numbering of conclusions differs are installed. Carry out check of the relay in strict accordance with the drawing. |
3. If the relay is serviceable, then remove the main relay of the engine and check it according to the drawing. Between couples of conclusions 3–5 and 2–4 ohmmeter have to show the closed chain. Between conclusions 1 and 2 closed chains should not be. If 3 and 5 to put tension from the battery to conclusions, then between conclusions 1 and 2 there has to be a closed chain, and between conclusions 2 and 4 – a gap. |
4. If all checked relays are serviceable, then the car should be handed over on diagnostics in service of car service of the dealer or in a specialized workshop. Independently it is not recommended to carry out further check owing to complexity and variety of the schemes used in the car. |

Replacement
PERFORMANCE ORDER |
1. Disconnect the battery from weight. |
2. Disconnect the socket on the fan electric motor. The fan of the conditioner is located before a radiator and fastens on the right side by means of a plastic percussion cap (it is specified by an arrow). The right arrow specified the fan socket. |
3. On the left side the fan of the conditioner fastens two bolts, one bolt for a cowl lock rack (it is specified by an arrow) and one from below. Access to the lower bolt is provided through an opening in a bumper. |
Prevention
On cars with the conditioner there are two fans. Before a radiator the N2 fan which is intended for additional cooling at turning on of the conditioner is installed. A procedure for test of this fan and relay just the same and for the N1 fan.
4. Merge a part of cooling liquid to disconnect the top hose of a radiator (see subsection 2.6.6), then disconnect perepuskny a hose in the top part of a radiator. |
5. Turn off two lower bolts of fastening, then two top bolts (are specified by shooters) and remove from the car a casing assembled with the fan, having lifted a casing up. |
6. Holding the fan for blades, turn off a nut of fastening of a krylchatka and remove a washer (if is available). Remove a krylchatka from a shaft. |
Prevention
Krylchatka of the N2 fan (on cars with the conditioner) is stopped by the forelock, the nut is absent.
7. Turn off bolts of fastening of the fan to a casing. Get the fan from a casing. |
8. The fan is installed upside-down. |
