3.1.1. Repair work without dismantle of the engine from the car

GENERAL INFORMATION

In this subsection types of the works on repair of engines performed directly on the car are described. In subsection 3.1.2 are described an order of dismantle and installation of the power unit from the car and all types of works on capital repairs of the block of cylinders and a head of the block of cylinders.

In all described below operations on repair it is meant that the engine from the car is not dismantled. If the engine is removed from the car and installed at the stand, then many operations on dismantling considered in this subsection are excluded.

The data provided in this subsection are applicable only to the procedures described in the same part. Subsection 3.1.2.1 contains the standard data necessary for repair of the block of cylinders and a head of the block of cylinders.

The engines which were installed on the Corolla cars those years are designated 4E-FE (1,3l), 4A-FE (1,6 l) and 7A-FE (1,8 l). All three engines have almost identical design: 16-valvate, with two cam-shafts and the top arrangement of valves.

Types of repair work, possible without dismantle of the engine from the car

Without dismantle of the engine from the car it is possible to execute a set of the main operations on repair.

Before any works it is very desirable to wash out a motor compartment and the engine any means for cleaning of the engine. Work with the pure engine is easier, besides, hit of dirt in the engine is prevented.

It can be necessary for removal of some details and units and expansion of working space to uncover a motor compartment.

Not to damage a covering, cover bumpers. Floorings will be necessary for work, here old folding bed or a blanket quite will approach.

If violation of tightness of the vacuum highway, the exhaust system, or the cooling systems indicating replacements of laying the need is available, then repair can be executed as a rule without dismantle of the engine. Without dismantle it is possible to replace laying of the soaking-up and final collectors, laying of the oil pallet, a head of the block of cylinders, epiploons of a bent shaft.

Without dismantle of the engine it is possible to remove such hinged units as the soaking-up and final collectors, the oil pallet, the oil pump, the pump of cooling liquid, a starter, the generator, the ignition distributor, and also units of fuel system from the car. However, for removal of the oil pump it is required to hang out the engine and to remove the right support of an engine mount.

As the head of the block of cylinders can be removed without dismantle of the engine too, also performance of work on repair or replacement of a cam-shaft, valves and details of their drive is possible. Without dismantle it is also possible to perform such works as replacement or check of a condition of a gear belt, gear wheels of the drive of a cam-shaft and pulleys.

In extreme cases when there is no necessary equipment, without removal of the engine it is possible to replace piston rings, pistons, rods and connecting rods. However, it is not recommended to perform these works without dismantle and full dismantling of the engine extremely as cleaning of the accompanying details, and also holding preparatory activities on assembly are required.
